A day in the life of... a Farrier

I had the opportunity to spend a day and photograph a Farrier at work. Like me, you may be wondering exactly what does a farrier do?

According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farrier) a Farrier is a specialist in equine hoof care, including the trimming and balancing of a horse's hoof and the placing of shoes to the horse's foot. A farrier couples a subset of the blacksmith's skills (fabricating, adapting, and adjusting metal shoes) with a subset of veterinary medicine (knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lower limb) to address the care of the horse's feet.

It was great to get out of the city and watch Tim working his trade in the barn. I was surprised at how much the horse seemed to enjoy getting his hooves trimmed. He didn't even seem to mind the smoke and smell of burnt hoof from the placement of the red hot horseshoe. Thanks for the great day Tim.
