The story of coincidences

Let me set up the story for you...

I met Kirby back in Grade 9. Kirby was born in Alberta and her sister Kendal was born in North Bay, Ontario. The family moved from Alberta to Ontario while they were kids. Their new town was a hamlet so small, you wouldn't even know you were standing in the center unless someone tapped you on the shoulder and told you so. This hamlet happens to be named Kirby. As fate should have it, the town of Kendal is located a few kilometers down the concession road.

On Christmas day in separate locations, unbeknownst to each other, both sisters received marriage proposals from their long term boyfriends. Each said yes. Only later in the day did they speak to one and other, and were surprised of the monumental news each had to share.

While the Canadian winter flexes her mighty muscles and sends chills up the tails of our jackets, the sisters embraced the allusion of their earlier coincidences and flew south this past week for a combined beach wedding on January 15, their parents wedding anniversary.

Unfortunately their Grandmother was unable to make the long flight. So, on a beautiful, warm, late afternoon last August, the sisters got dressed up to show Grandma their wedding dresses in person. Kirby hired me to take some portraits with the women of the family. Finally, five months later I am proudly able to share some highlights of the shoot

Congratulations Kirby & Scott, Kendal & TJ and happy anniversary Ginnie & Clarke!!!

The sound of music (camera clicks)

I love this job.

I am passionate about photography but I also truly enjoy meeting new, interesting and good people like Mervin Fick, a multi talented choral conductor, organist, chorister, and soloist. For Mervin who lives and breathes classical music on a daily basis, his request (understandably) was for a nice and quiet shoot. Ironically without any background music from the stereo this was my quietest studio shoot to date. The shutter clicks and flash bulbs provided the 'four on the floor' backbeat.

It was only a few weeks ago that I met and did the shoot for Mervin and the Toronto Beach Chorale at their inaugural Christmas concert. Mervin's gift to himself this year was new headshots and here are some of my personal favourites from the portrait session:
